Password Generator

Passwords are extremely important for anyone who wishes to use the internet and keep their account secure. There are various ways of ensuring the safety of your account, your password being one of the most important if not the most important.

Here are some examples of weak passwords, if you're currently using any of these, I recommend you change them ASAP

  • password/Password
  • 123456789 (123456 etc)
  • q1w2e3
  • qwerty
  • qwertyuiop
  • 1q2w3e
These passwords are very common and easy to crack. Gizmode compiled a list of the 25 most popular passwords in 2014. The Telegraph also has a list of the most common passwords for 2017.

Methods used by hackers

Dictionary

This attack is one of the simplest and fastest attacks, basically the attack goes through a dictionary of words ( the most common passwords, such as the ones above) and tries each one of them, this attack will usually not work on even slightly strong passwords and only work on the most common passwords

Brute Force

This approach is very time consuming for the attacker as it attempts all combination possibilities, letters, numbers and special characters, this approach will not work on most websites as they limit the amount of attempts you have to login.

Rainbow Table

Very Similar to the dictionary approach with the difference being the words are hashed.
